Africa Programme Officer

About the role

The International Detention Coalition (IDC) seeks an Africa Programme Officer to support its mission of ending immigration detention across the continent. Working closely with the Africa Regional Manager, you will help design, implement and monitor regional programmes, events and advocacy initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical, administrative and logistical support for national and regional projects and events.
• Maintain project timelines, deliverables and follow‑ups, ensuring operational efficiency.
• Assist with financial administration for the Africa programme.
• Develop and implement advocacy strategies on immigration detention, alternatives to detention and migrant‑refugee rights.
• Engage with government officials, civil‑society partners, UN agencies and regional networks to build partnerships.
• Draft, edit and disseminate advocacy materials, briefing notes and strategic communications.
• Support IDC members in the region and facilitate network‑building activities.

Required profile

• Strong background in migration and human‑rights advocacy.
• Excellent organisational, planning and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
• Highly motivated, detail‑oriented and able to work independently.
• Willingness to travel across the Africa region as needed.
