Risk & Internal Control Officer

About the role

Wave is building the first cashless continent in Africa and needs a Risk & Internal Control Officer to protect its operations. You will identify, assess and mitigate strategic, operational, financial, technological and reputational risks while designing robust internal control systems.

Key responsibilities

• Support the implementation of Wave’s risk management framework and internal control systems.
• Identify and evaluate risks across activities, processes, information systems and external events.
• Conduct risk assessments for new products, features or process changes.
• Design and perform preventive and detective controls and monitor their effectiveness.
• Promote a risk‑aware culture through awareness campaigns, training and documentation.
• Monitor internal reporting and escalation mechanisms to ensure timely detection and resolution of risk issues.
• Prepare periodic risk and internal control reports, dashboards and incident summaries.
• Analyze emerging risk trends and contribute to the development of risk identification and prioritisation tools.

Required profile

• Strong analytical mindset with a learner’s attitude.
• Experience in risk assessment, internal control design or related fields.
• Ability to work independently and support leadership with data‑driven insights.
• Excellent communication skills to influence cross‑functional teams.
