Environmental & Social Intern – Senegal

About the role

ESS is seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Environmental & Social (E&S) Intern to support its teams in Senegal and other relevant countries. The intern will assist in implementing and monitoring sustainability initiatives, ensuring compliance with local regulations and international standards such as the IFC Performance Standards and Equator Principles. This position offers a valuable hands‑on experience for recent graduates or early‑career professionals in the natural resources and infrastructure sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Support environmental and social baseline data collection and reporting.
• Assist in monitoring compliance with Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMP).
• Contribute to stakeholder engagement activities, including preparation of meeting notes and follow‑up actions.
• Support grievance mechanism tracking and resolution documentation.
• Assist in organizing and documenting Environmental, Social, Health & Safety (ESHS) training.
• Participate in environmental monitoring (water, waste, biodiversity) under supervision.
• Contribute to drafting progress reports, presentations, and knowledge‑sharing materials.
• Provide administrative and logistical support to the E&S team on site.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (or final‑year student) in Environmental Science, Social Sciences, Sustainability or a related field.
• Good communication and writing skills in French; proficiency in English is an advantage.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work in multicultural teams.
• Willingness to be based in project areas, including rural settings.
