Family Safety Practitioner II – Child Protective Services

About the role

The Family Safety Practitioner II works within Child Protective Services to protect children at risk of abuse or neglect and to strengthen families. This full‑time position involves assessing complex situations, making critical decisions, and coordinating intervention services to achieve safe, positive outcomes for children and families.

Key responsibilities

• Assess allegations of child abuse and neglect through interviews with children, parents, and other parties, often in homes or community settings.
• Conduct comprehensive assessments of protective, risk, and safety factors using the agency’s practice model.
• Develop and monitor safety plans, connect families with services, provide brief clinical interventions, and, when necessary, arrange alternate living arrangements or foster care placement.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary professionals to gather information and inform decision‑making.
• Prepare and file court paperwork, attend hearings, and testify to ensure child safety.
• Document all interactions, observations, and decisions promptly and accurately.
• Assist with CPS Hotline screening of new referrals, when applicable.
• Support practitioners delivering in‑home or family support services, when applicable.

Required profile

• Ability to manage conflict and cope with pressure professionally.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including on‑call rotations.
• Strong collaborative mindset.
• Knowledge of child development and family functioning.
