Family Safety Practitioner III – Child Protective Services

About the role

The Family Safety Practitioner III works within a dedicated team to protect children and strengthen families. This full-time position conducts investigations of alleged child abuse and neglect, develops safety plans, and connects families with needed services.

Key responsibilities

• Assess allegations of child abuse and neglect through interviews with children, parents, and other parties, often in home or community settings.
• Use the agency’s practice model to evaluate protective, risk, and safety factors for children and families.
• Create and monitor safety plans, provide brief clinical interventions, and arrange alternative living arrangements or foster care when required.
• Collaborate with law enforcement, healthcare providers, and multidisciplinary team members; attend monthly MDT meetings and provide training.
• Obtain and maintain forensic interview certification and conduct SANE examinations.
• Represent the county’s sexual abuse unit in community and professional training.
• Prepare and file court documents, testify in hearings, and take legal action to ensure child safety.
• Document all interactions and decisions promptly and accurately.

• Flexibility to work varied hours, including on-call rotations.

• Knowledge of child development, family dynamics, and cultural competence.

• Commitment to continuous learning of policies, best practices, and the agency’s practice model.
