Security Associate

About the role

The Security Associate supports UNODC’s safety and security operations across West and Central Africa. Working closely with the Regional Representative and security focal points, the role ensures timely information exchange, compliance with UN security standards, and effective risk mitigation for personnel, premises, and field activities.

Key responsibilities

• Gather, verify and update security data to support risk assessments, preparedness levels and security plans.
• Participate in drafting and reviewing security documents such as Security Risk Management (SRM) reports, Residential Security Measures (RSM) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in collaboration with UNDSS.
• Maintain up‑to‑date personnel and site lists to support the implementation of office security plans.
• Represent UNODC at technical meetings with national authorities (gendarmerie, police) and at Security Cell meetings.
• Disseminate security updates for West and Central Africa and compile compliance data for the 22 covered countries.
• Document and assist in reporting security incidents affecting staff, offices and assets.
• Provide administrative support for security awareness training and conduct basic briefings for newly arrived personnel.

Required profile

• Proactive, client‑oriented approach aligned with UNODC policies and UNSMS standards.
• Experience in security administration, risk management or related fields.
• Ability to liaise effectively with national authorities and UN security structures.
• Strong analytical and reporting skills, with attention to detail.
