Finance Associate – Dakar, Senegal

About the role

The Finance Associate will support UN Women’s Country Office in Dakar by delivering a wide range of financial services and ensuring compliance with UN Women’s financial rules and policies. Working under the Deputy Director of Financial Management and the Operations Manager, the role contributes to transparent and efficient use of resources.

Key responsibilities

• Implement financial strategies in full compliance with UN Women regulations and internal controls.
• Review, verify and correct financial transactions, documenting any anomalies.
• Monitor financial exception reports, investigate irregularities and present recommendations.
• Prepare reports on financial status, exchange rates, costs and expenditures.
• Follow up on audit recommendations and ensure corrective actions are taken.
• Collect and verify data for budgeting, programme work plans and proposals.
• Assist with annual work‑plan entry in the PRISM system.
• Provide advice on financial issues and support cost‑saving initiatives.
• Review project delivery status reports with budget owners and investigate overspends.
• Respond to instructions from senior finance leadership and undertake timely corrective actions.

Required profile

• Under the guidance of senior finance staff, with a client‑oriented approach.
• Ability to collaborate closely with programme and operations teams.
• Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.

Required skills

• Knowledge of UN Women financial regulations and standard operating procedures.
• Experience with internal controls, audit follow‑up and financial reporting.
• Proficiency in using the PRISM financial management system.
