Human Rights Officer – Regional Project Coordinator (P4)

About the role

The Human Rights Officer – Regional Project Coordinator (P4) is based in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights West Africa Regional Office in Dakar, Senegal. Reporting directly to the Regional Representative, the officer will support the strategic approach of the office and provide authoritative legal advice on a wide range of human‑rights issues.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and investigate compliance with international human rights and humanitarian law across West Africa.
• Analyze and manage data to inform early‑warning mechanisms, accountability processes and policy development.
• Draft evidence‑based reports and strategic advice for UN leadership and national authorities.
• Integrate human‑rights perspectives into peace, humanitarian and development planning.
• Advise on protection of civilians, rule of law and transitional justice.
• Foster partnerships, capacity‑building and advocacy initiatives that promote equality and accountability.
