Risk & Internal Control Officer

About the role

Wave is building a cash‑less Africa and needs a Risk & Internal Control Officer to protect its operations in Senegal. You will design and monitor internal control systems, assess risks for new products, and help embed a risk‑aware culture across the organization. You will work closely with the Risk and Internal Control Lead and provide data‑driven insights to support strategic decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Support implementation of Wave’s risk management framework and internal control systems.
• Identify, evaluate and document risks related to processes, information systems, production tools and external events.
• Conduct risk assessments for new products, features or process changes.
• Design and execute preventive and detective controls and follow up on their effectiveness.
• Promote a risk‑aware culture through training, awareness campaigns and documentation.
• Monitor internal reporting, escalation mechanisms and support incident investigation.
• Prepare dashboards, incident summaries and reports for risk committees and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with operational, finance, compliance and other teams to align controls with business priorities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Risk Management, Business, Economics or related field.
• Minimum 5 years experience in internal control, permanent control or internal audit.
• At least 2 years hands‑on experience in risk management activities (risk assessment, mapping, mitigation planning).
• Fluency in French and English, both written and spoken.
• Strong analytical abilities and proven capacity to conduct detailed technical investigations.
• Experience in mobile‑money operations or the financial services sector is an advantage.
