Security Specialist (P-3) – Temporary, 6 months – Dakar, Senegal

About the role

The Security Specialist will support UNICEF’s Regional Services Division in West and Central Africa by providing security analysis, advice, and risk mitigation for programme activities and operations. Working under the Regional Security Advisor, the role ensures the safety of staff, families, and assets across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Provide security risk assessments (SRAs) and develop country‑specific security plans.
• Advise Representatives and senior staff on security measures, including Minimum Operating Security Standards (MOSS) and Residential Security Measures (RSM).
• Participate in UN Security Management System coordination, attending SMT/ASMT meetings and supporting the UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS).
• Contribute to the development of security procedures, guidelines, and the UN Security Cell activities.
• Travel to other countries in the region as needed to support security coordination.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in security risk management, preferably within UN or international NGO contexts.
• Strong understanding of UN security policies and the Saving Lives Together (SLT) framework.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with multi‑agency security teams.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills.

Required skills

• Security risk assessment methodology.
