Security Specialist (Temporary, 6 months)

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a Security Specialist to support its Regional Services Division in West and Central Africa. This six‑month temporary appointment, based in Dakar, will provide security analysis, advice and coordination for UNICEF programmes and staff across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Provide security risk assessments (SRAs) and develop country‑specific security plans.
• Advise UNICEF Representatives on safety of personnel, premises and eligible family members in line with UN and UNICEF security management systems.
• Participate in UN Security Cell meetings, observe senior management team (SMT) sessions and coordinate with the UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS).
• Monitor implementation of the UN Security Plan, Minimum Operating Security Standards (MOSS) and Residential Security Measures (RSM).
• Offer technical oversight for contracted security service providers and ensure compliance with security procedures.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in security risk management, preferably within UN or international NGO contexts.
• Strong understanding of UN security policies, coordination mechanisms and emergency response procedures.
• Ability to work independently and travel to other countries in the region when required.
• Excellent analytical, reporting and communication skills.

Required skills

• Security risk assessment methodology.
• Knowledge of UN Security Management System (UNSMS) and related guidelines.
• Experience overseeing security contracts and service providers.
