Senior Evaluation & MHPSS Consultant – UNICEF Africa

About the role

The consultant will analyse and triangulate existing primary and secondary evidence on UNICEF‑supported mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) programming across Africa and prepare a comprehensive evaluation report in line with the agreed framework. No new primary data collection is required; the work will adopt a cross‑sectoral, systems‑level perspective.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse and synthesize qualitative interview, focus‑group, survey, programme‑monitoring and administrative data.
• Apply mixed‑methods, theory‑based contribution analysis and utilization‑focused evaluation approaches.
• Assess the quality, completeness and comparability of existing datasets and develop analytical strategies to address evidence gaps.
• Produce evidence‑triangulated findings, conclusions, lessons learned and actionable recommendations.
• Consider results at national, sub‑national and community levels and integrate gender equality, disability inclusion, social policy and climate resilience dimensions.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in evaluation, psychology, public health, social sciences or related field.
• At least 10 years of progressive experience in evaluation, applied research or evidence generation in humanitarian or development contexts.
• Fluency in written and spoken English and proven ability to produce high‑quality evaluation reports.
