Transport Specialist

About the role

The World Bank is seeking a Transport Specialist to join its Western and Central Africa (AFW) regional team in Dakar, Senegal. The role supports the Bank’s mission to reduce poverty and promote shared prosperity across Sub‑Saharan Africa by strengthening transport infrastructure and policy.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical and analytical support for a portfolio of transport projects worth roughly US$18 billion.
• Assist in project design, implementation, and monitoring, ensuring alignment with World Bank standards and regional development goals.
• Collaborate with government agencies, private sector partners, and other stakeholders to identify transport solutions that address climate change, food security, and economic growth.
• Prepare reports, policy briefs, and presentations for senior management and external partners.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in transportation engineering, economics, public policy, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in transport planning, project management, or infrastructure development, preferably in Africa.
• Fluency in English and French, both written and spoken.
• Demonstrated ability to work in multicultural, multi‑disciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
• Experience with transport modelling, feasibility studies, and impact assessments.
• Proficiency in data analysis tools and GIS software.
