Communication & Multimedia Officer

About the role

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is seeking a Communication & Multimedia Officer for its West Africa Regional Office in Dakar. The role blends strategic research communication with high‑quality multimedia production to translate complex scientific evidence into accessible, policy‑relevant content for diverse audiences across West and Central Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Support implementation of the regional communications and visibility strategy, including communication plans for research projects, events, and institutional milestones.
• Draft and edit French‑language communication materials (press releases, blog posts, newsletters, social media) and adapt them into English when required.
• Produce end‑to‑end multimedia content: video production, photography, infographics, animations, motion graphics, and PowerPoint presentations.
• Design visual assets for digital and print use such as brochures, banners, reports, and social media graphics, ensuring compliance with APHRC brand guidelines.
• Maintain multimedia archives, coordinate with vendors, and provide audiovisual support for high‑level meetings and stakeholder events.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Multimedia, Graphic Design, Digital Media, Visual Arts or related field.
• 3‑5 years of professional experience in communication, multimedia production, or digital media.
• Excellent professional proficiency in French and functional proficiency in English.
• Demonstrated ability to create communication materials for technical, policy, and public audiences.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects or similar).
• Strong photography and videography skills, including equipment handling and post‑production editing.
• Design expertise for digital and print formats, including PowerPoint presentation design.
• Experience with social media content creation, digital publishing tools, and web metrics.
