Country Director – Senegal

About the role

Mercy Ships is seeking an experienced Country Director to lead its strategic work in Senegal. The role serves as the senior representative of the organization, overseeing government relations, program delivery, financial stewardship, and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and review the country strategy, aligning it with national health priorities and Mercy Ships’ program goals.
• Represent Mercy Ships with government ministries, diplomatic missions, donors, healthcare institutions and other strategic partners.
• Lead the in‑country team, coordinating programmatic, operational, financial and administrative functions.
• Oversee budgeting, financial performance, resource allocation and ensure responsible stewardship of donor funds.
• Maintain legal registration, licenses, agreements and monitor political, security, health and regulatory risks.

Required profile

• Senior leadership experience in an international NGO, development, healthcare or nonprofit environment.
• Proven ability to manage complex programs, budgets, multidisciplinary teams and senior government relationships.
• Strong strategic planning, program management and financial management capabilities.
• High integrity, cultural sensitivity, resilience and accountability.

Required skills

• Fluency in English and French.
• Excellent relationship‑building, negotiation, communication and public‑speaking abilities.
