Country Security Specialist – West Africa

About the role

The World Bank Group is seeking a Country Security Specialist to lead security programs for its IBRD and IFC offices across Senegal, The Gambia and Mauritania, with additional support responsibilities for Guinea Bissau and Cape Verde. Reporting to the Corporate Security Manager in Accra, the role works closely with senior office leadership to ensure a safe operating environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and monitor security programs for World Bank offices in the assigned countries.
• Advise senior management on security risks, mitigation measures and crisis response.
• Coordinate with the CSS Extended Term Consultant for Guinea Bissau and Cape Verde.
• Provide backup support to other West Africa security specialists and respond to emergencies on short notice.
• Travel as required for on‑site assessments, crisis management and regional coordination.
• Maintain on‑call availability for emergency situations.

Required profile

• Proven experience in corporate security or related fields.
• Ability to work in multi‑country environments and engage with senior leadership.
• Willingness to travel frequently and respond to urgent security incidents.
• Fluency in English and French; Portuguese is a plus.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of corporate security policies and procedures.
• Experience in risk assessment, crisis management and emergency response.
• Familiarity with security challenges in West Africa.
