Finance Associate – Financial Management

About the role

The Finance Associate will support UN Women’s Country Office in Dakar by ensuring the efficient, transparent, and compliant use of financial resources. Working under the Deputy Director of Financial Management and daily supervision of the Operations Manager, the role bridges program and operations teams to deliver high‑quality financial services.

Key responsibilities

• Implement financial strategies in full compliance with UN Women rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Review, verify, and correct financial transactions and related documentation.
• Monitor financial exception reports, investigate anomalies, and present recommendations.
• Draft and circulate reports on financial status, exchange rates, costs, and expenditures.
• Follow up on audit recommendations and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Collect, verify, and present data for budgeting, work‑plan preparation, and programme proposals.
• Assist with Annual Work Plan entry in PRISM as required.
• Provide advice and solutions on a wide range of financial issues.
• Monitor the financial resource management system for office and programme budgets.
• Implement cost‑saving measures and review project delivery status reports for overspend.
• Respond to instructions from senior finance leadership and undertake timely corrective actions.

Required profile

• University degree in finance, accounting, economics or a related field.
• Relevant experience in financial management, preferably in an international or UN environment.
• Strong knowledge of UN financial regulations, internal controls, and audit processes.
• Ability to work collaboratively with programme and operations teams.
• Excellent analytical, reporting, and problem‑solving skills.
• Proficiency in preparing financial reports and managing budgets.
