GEF Projects Sub-Regional Coordinator

About the role

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) seeks a Sub-Regional Coordinator to lead and support GEF‑funded climate projects across West Africa. Based in Dakar, the coordinator will join a multidisciplinary climate team to enhance project design, implementation and donor engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance to country offices for developing concept notes and project proposals for GEF, GCF and Adaptation Fund.
• Coordinate the implementation of over 60 GEF‑funded projects, ensuring alignment with regional climate strategies and NDC commitments.
• Liaise with the GEF Secretariat, donors and regional partners to secure funding and monitor project performance.
• Support the preparation of project documentation, reporting and data management on environmental resources.
• Collaborate closely with technical experts, long‑term officers and project managers across the sub‑region.

Required profile

• Proven experience in climate‑related project management within an international or multilateral environment.
• Familiarity with GEF, GCF and Adaptation Fund procedures and climate finance mechanisms.
• Strong understanding of West African agricultural and environmental contexts, including NDCs and climate adaptation priorities.
• Excellent coordination and communication skills, with ability to work in a multicultural team.
