Greenhouse Technician

About the role

The Greenhouse Technician will support the operation and maintenance of breeding and phenotyping greenhouse and screenhouse facilities in Bambey, Senegal. The role ensures efficient, safe, and protocol‑compliant greenhouse activities that underpin plant breeding, pathology, disease screening and crop improvement research.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily greenhouse and soil preparation operations, including workflow implementation, access control, and environmental monitoring.
• Support plant propagation activities such as seedling establishment, transplanting, maintenance and harvesting in greenhouse, screenhouse and nursery settings.
• Maintain soil preparation, substrate mixing, sterilization and potting, and ensure proper disposal of used media and plant residues.
• Perform routine maintenance of greenhouse infrastructure, including minor plumbing repairs, water leak repairs, and basic electrical troubleshooting.
• Keep accurate inventories of supplies, substrates, pots and equipment, and record stock usage.
• Implement safety, biosafety, sanitation and waste‑disposal procedures and report any operational or plant‑health concerns.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, horticulture, plant science, agricultural engineering or related field.
• At least one year of experience in greenhouse, nursery or agricultural research facilities.
• Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams, with strong organizational and problem‑solving abilities.
• Working knowledge of English and French is highly desirable.
