Head of Arts Senegal

About the role

The Head of Arts in Senegal leads the British Council’s Arts and Creative Industries portfolio, representing the organisation externally and steering the planning and delivery of arts programmes across the country. Working closely with the Country Director and global Arts colleagues, the role shapes strategy, builds partnerships and drives impact in the local creative sector.

Key responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day delivery of the country Arts portfolio, ensuring programme quality, compliance and financial governance.
• Manage a small Arts team, embedding Equality, Diversity & Inclusion and anti‑racist practices.
• Develop and implement strategic plans aligned with the global Arts strategy, overseeing the full programme lifecycle.
• Provide expert insight on Arts and Creative Industries to inform programme design and align with UK and local priorities.
• Build and maintain strategic relationships with funders, cultural institutions, and creative sector partners.
• Identify opportunities for multi‑country collaborations, income generation and digital integration.

Required profile

• Senior leadership experience in the arts, cultural or creative industries, preferably within a multinational environment.
• Proven ability to manage programmes, budgets and small teams.
• Strong stakeholder‑engagement skills and a track record of building strategic partnerships.
• Experience working in resource‑constrained or complex political contexts.
• Commitment to Equality, Diversity & Inclusion and anti‑racist practice.
