Head of English & School Education

About the role

The Head of English & School Education will translate the British Council’s global strategy into actionable plans that deliver impact and financial sustainability within a country. Reporting to the Country Director, you will lead the English and School Education portfolio, overseeing contracts, programmes and partnerships across mixed funding streams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement annual business plans, set targets and monitor progress against impact and financial goals.
• Provide technical sector expertise and ensure compliant, high‑quality delivery of English and school‑based programmes.
• Lead business development activities, including proposal review, investment decisions and partnership negotiations.
• Analyse market trends, performance data and competitor insights to inform strategy and improve programme outcomes.
• Represent the British Council in external forums, advise on education policy and share best practices with global ESE teams.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in education, language learning or related sectors.
• Strong track record of managing multi‑million‑dollar portfolios and delivering results in complex environments.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills with governments, educational institutions and partners.
• Ability to translate strategic objectives into operational plans and drive performance.
