About the role
The Network System Specialist ensures day‑to‑day operation, maintenance and optimisation of a private LTE and IP network supporting critical mining applications. This mid‑level operational engineering position acts as the on‑site technical point of contact for telecom and network issues, working under the standards set by Group IT and the equipment vendor.
Key responsibilities
- Operate and supervise the Nokia private LTE network (eNodeBs, EPC core, CPE fleet) using NetAct/NDAC and vendor EMS/NMS tools.
- Perform daily health checks, triage alarms and resolve Level 1‑2 faults; prepare diagnostic packages for vendor escalation.
- Conduct coverage verification, drive tests and signal quality measurements; recommend antenna adjustments.
- Install, configure and inventory CPE, routers and antennas on heavy machinery and vehicles; manage SIM/IMSI/APN registers.
- Apply approved parameter changes under change‑management procedures.
- Support commissioning, relocation of cell sites and mobile masts.
- Maintain LAN/WAN infrastructure: routers, Layer 2/3 switches, VLANs, routing protocols (static, OSPF, BGP), DHCP/DNS relay, NAT and VPN tunnels.
- Monitor and maintain microwave, point‑to‑point and fiber transmission links, ensuring link budgets and alignment.
- Implement QoS and traffic prioritisation for fleet management, telemetry and voice traffic.
- Administer site Wi‑Fi controllers and access points, resolving interference and coverage issues.
- Maintain technical documentation: topology diagrams, IP addressing plan, VLAN register, cabling records, configuration backups and MOPs.
Required profile
- Mid‑level operational engineer with hands‑on experience in private LTE networks and IP networking.
- Ability to act as the primary on‑site technical contact and to work closely with vendors and project teams.
- Strong analytical skills for fault diagnosis and network optimisation.
Required skills
- Nokia NetAct / NDAC and other vendor EMS/NMS tools.
- LTE network components: eNodeB, EPC core, CPE configuration.
- RF coverage testing, drive‑test tools and antenna alignment.
- IP routing protocols: OSPF, BGP, static routing.
- VLAN design, DHCP/DNS relay, NAT, VPN tunnel configuration.
- Microwave, point‑to‑point and fiber link maintenance.
- QoS configuration and traffic prioritisation.
- Wi‑Fi controller configuration and access‑point deployment.
- Technical documentation: topology diagrams, IP addressing plans, configuration backups, MOPs.
