Projects Assistant – Marine Conservation

About the role
BirdLife International is looking for a Projects Assistant to support the Africa Marine Programme, focusing on seabird conservation and fisheries engagement across West Africa. The role combines field work, data collection and stakeholder coordination to help mitigate by‑catch and improve fisheries governance.
Key responsibilities
- Engage with fisheries authorities, observer programmes and fishing communities to gather information on gear types and by‑catch issues.
- Collect, collate and analyse fisheries data, supporting reporting and scientific‑policy linkages.
- Coordinate observer programmes, monitoring activities and capacity‑building trainings for stakeholders.
- Organise and deliver workshops, meetings and field missions, ensuring timely project outputs.
- Maintain project documentation, reports and organized records.
- Assist with financial analyses and management reporting.
Required profile
- MSc or equivalent in marine science, fisheries science, environmental management or related field.
- 6–12 months of professional experience in fisheries, marine conservation or coastal community work in West Africa.
- Good understanding of fisheries systems, by‑catch and marine conservation.
- Familiarity with West African fisheries sector and existing stakeholder networks is an advantage.
Required skills
- Proficiency in Excel for data handling and reporting.
