Raptor Breeding and Management Specialist

About the role

We are looking for a hands‑on Raptor Breeding & Management Specialist to establish and scale a bird‑based ecosystem across large plantation operations in Senegal. The role is execution‑focused, on‑site, and responsible for breeding barn owls and other predatory birds, raising them, and releasing them to provide natural pest control.

Key responsibilities

• Operate artificial incubation systems: collect, store, incubate eggs and care for hatchlings.
• Raise chicks to maturity using feeding protocols and behavioral conditioning.
• Plan and execute structured releases, monitor survival, territory establishment and adaptation.
• Install and maintain heat‑resistant nest boxes, perches and shelters; track occupancy and effectiveness.
• Implement retention techniques, controlled feeding and soft‑release methods to keep birds within plantation boundaries.
• Monitor daily bird health, manage nutrition, disease prevention, parasite control and coordinate veterinary care when needed.
• Utilise barn owls for rodent control in oil‑palm plantations and support rice/food crops by managing problematic bird species ecologically.

Required profile

• Hands‑on, execution‑oriented professional able to work on‑site in a hot, dry climate.
• Experience with raptor breeding, incubation and husbandry.
• Ability to monitor health, handle injured birds and liaise with veterinarians.
• Strong observational skills to adjust release strategies based on field performance.
