Regional Security & Safety Officer – West & Central Africa

About the role

The Regional Security & Safety Officer will lead the development and implementation of security and safety measures for IUCN‑PACO’s West and Central Africa region. Based in Dakar, the role supports program offices across volatile environments, ensuring personnel, assets and programmes are protected.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct regional and program‑office security risk assessments and develop mitigation plans.
• Establish and maintain a coordinated security system covering all country offices.
• Provide technical assistance and guidance on security planning, especially in high‑risk locations.
• Mentor and coach Sub‑Regional Security Officers, safety managers and field focal points.
• Organise and deliver training in line with IUCN security policies.
• Maintain a network of information on strategic developments that could affect operations.
• Collaborate with the Regional Head of Finance, Regional Director and Head of Programs to prioritise security actions.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in security risk management within complex, multi‑country contexts.
• Strong understanding of socio‑cultural, political and economic dynamics in West and Central Africa.
• Proven ability to lead teams, mentor staff and build capacity.
• Willingness to travel frequently, including to insecure locations.
