About the role
AFRICAWORK is seeking an experienced Technical Superintendent to manage the technical performance of its fleet in Dakar, Senegal. The role focuses on maintenance, repairs, dry‑docking, compliance and cost‑effective operation of assigned vessels.
Key responsibilities
- Supervise daily technical and operational activities, monitor vessel performance and ensure compliance with class, flag state and international regulations.
- Plan and manage repairs, refits and dry‑docking projects, coordinating shipyards, workshops and suppliers to meet schedule and budget.
- Oversee spare‑part planning, procurement coordination and cost‑control measures to minimise downtime.
- Assist in preparing and monitoring technical budgets, reporting expenditure and performance to senior management.
- Implement HSSEQ policies, support audits and promote a strong safety culture across the fleet.
Required profile
- Marine or Mechanical Engineer with extensive seagoing experience as a Chief Engineer, preferably on tugs, workboats or similar port vessels.
- Proven ability to lead technical teams, manage multi‑stakeholder projects and drive continuous improvement.
Required skills
- Vessel maintenance and Planned Maintenance System (PMS) management.
- Dry‑docking coordination and major repair project execution.
- Technical budgeting and cost‑control.
- Statutory compliance and HSSEQ implementation.
