Youth, Peace and Security Intern (6‑month)

About the role

The Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) Intern will join the UNFPA West and Central Africa Regional Office in Dakar, supporting the YPS Specialist and programme teams on research, coordination and advocacy activities.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct background research on youth participation in peacebuilding, conflict resolution and humanitarian action.
• Monitor and compile reports on national and regional YPS policies and initiatives.
• Prepare briefing notes, fact sheets and policy documents on YPS‑related topics.
• Assist in the planning, coordination and technical oversight of YPS projects across country offices.
• Support the design and implementation of youth‑led peacebuilding initiatives and training sessions.
• Draft social media content, newsletters and blog posts to promote YPS activities.
• Help develop advocacy materials and contribute to communication efforts.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or recent graduate of a relevant university programme (e.g., international relations, peace studies, development studies).
• Strong interest in youth engagement, peacebuilding and security issues.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
