Chauffeur – Government Vehicle Operator

About the role

The U.S. Mission in Dakar is seeking a professional Chauffeur to operate unarmored and, when required, armored government vehicles. The role involves transporting personnel, official visitors, and cargo safely and efficiently while representing the mission with discretion.

Key responsibilities

• Operate U.S. Government‑owned or leased vehicles to transport passengers and cargo.
• Receive and execute assignments from the Dispatcher, including duty driver rotations.
• Perform messenger duties as directed.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness, conduct basic inspections, and follow scheduled maintenance.
• Prepare trip reports, vehicle use logs, and fuel consumption estimates.
• Safeguard government property and ensure fuel‑efficient operation.
• Occasionally drive armored vehicles and undertake out‑of‑town trips requiring overnight stays.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of professional driving experience.
• Good working knowledge of Dakar and surrounding areas, including routes, traffic patterns, and locations of hospitals, police and fire stations.
• Completion of primary education.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to read maps, plan routes, and communicate professionally.
• Basic automotive maintenance skills and basic computer proficiency for reporting.
• English (limited) and French (good working knowledge).
• Pass medical and security certifications.
