Senior Mine Planning Engineer

About the role

The Senior Mine Planning Engineer will lead medium‑ to long‑range planning for the Sabodala Open Pit Mine. Reporting to the Mine Planning Superintendent, the role focuses on pit optimisation, design, scheduling and ensuring that production targets are met.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and revise operational and long‑term cost models, run optimisation and sensitivity analyses.
• Create and maintain medium‑ to long‑term mine plans, ensuring budgeted targets are achieved.
• Calculate and present mid‑year and annual ore reserves in compliance with legal requirements.
• Plan mine infrastructure to support operational efficiency and expansion.
• Prepare 12‑month rolling forecasts and ensure their accuracy.
• Run corporate strategic scenarios and provide monthly reconciliation of plan versus actual performance.
• Manage ore production and waste line balances, and identify ground‑control or geotechnical issues promptly.
• Support safety management by implementing procedures, hazard plans and participating in health & safety activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s (Bac+4/5) in geology, mining engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of operational experience in open‑pit mining, including at least 2 years in strategic planning.
• Fluent English with strong report writing and presentation abilities.
• Proven analytical, problem‑solving and multi‑project management skills.
• Ability to adapt to a changing work environment.

Required skills

• Microsoft Office suite, advanced Excel with Visual Basic for Applications.
• Mining software: Surpac, Vulcan, Minesched, Whittle.
• Programming: TCL (required), Python (a plus).
