Senior Underground Ventilation Engineer

About the role

The Senior Underground Ventilation Engineer will lead the design, monitoring and optimisation of ventilation systems for underground mining operations. This role ensures safe air quality, efficient airflow distribution and regulatory compliance throughout active and planned mining areas.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the underground ventilation strategy aligned with the Life of Mine plan.
• Design and optimise primary and secondary ventilation systems, including fan selection and airflow distribution.
• Determine required airflow based on equipment fleets, heat loads, blasting activities and development sequencing.
• Create, calibrate and update ventilation models to reflect current and future mining conditions.
• Monitor air quality and airflow quantities, conduct routine surveys and validate model outputs against measurements.
• Calculate safe re‑entry times after blasting and manage diesel emissions, blasting gases and heat loads.
• Audit contractor‑installed secondary ventilation infrastructure and ensure compliance with ventilation allocations.
• Collaborate with mine planning, geotechnical and operations teams to embed ventilation requirements into short‑, medium‑ and long‑term plans.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in underground ventilation engineering, preferably in long‑hole open stoping environments.
• Strong knowledge of ventilation modelling, airflow analysis and fan performance.
• Proven ability to interpret statutory and company ventilation standards.
• Experience coordinating with mine planning, geotechnical and operations teams.
