Sr Media & Communications Associate (Maternity cover)

About the role

The Senior Media & Communications Associate will support the Regional Office’s media and communication strategy, helping raise awareness of IOM’s work and promote an accurate narrative on migration. The role involves creating and disseminating public information, coordinating with country offices, and supporting global and UN‑led campaigns.

Key responsibilities

• Support implementation of the Regional Media and Communication Strategy and outreach activities.
• Gather, draft and disseminate public information on IOM activities through press briefings, newsletters, website and social media.
• Coordinate media, public information and event management with Regional and Country Offices.
• Produce human‑interest stories, photographs and video clips for an international audience.
• Develop and share content for social media platforms (X, Facebook, LinkedIn) and explore new formats such as podcasts and infographics.
• Monitor media trends and provide briefings to regional and HQ colleagues.

Required profile

• High school diploma with at least seven years of relevant experience, or a university degree in Media and Communications, Journalism or a related field with at least five years of experience.
• Experience in public information or communications within a UN agency or similar organization, and experience working for a news media outlet.
• Fluency in English (oral and written) is required.
