Geospatial Data Analysis Internship – West & Central Africa

About the role

Under the supervision of the Population Data Advisor, the intern will support the Population Dynamics, Data & Policy unit of UNFPA in West and Central Africa, contributing to research and evidence generation on population dynamics and sustainable development.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement geospatial databases, data collection systems and analytics to improve statistical efficiency and quality.
• Identify, analyze and interpret trends using basic machine‑learning techniques and statistical methods on structured and unstructured data.
• Design new approaches for geospatial data management and utilization, including generating population estimates such as Small Area Estimation from census and other sources.
• Support census‑related activities and the regional initiative RICoP addressing population challenges in West and Central Africa.

Required profile

• Current student or recent graduate interested in population dynamics, geospatial data and development research.
• Ability to work under direct supervision of the Population Data Advisor.
