Head of Programming I, Senegal and the Gambia

About the role

Lead strategic direction, leadership and management of programming across Senegal, The Gambia and outreach countries, ensuring high‑quality, large‑scale programs for the poor and vulnerable.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction for program frameworks, resource mobilization and alignment with agency priorities.
• Lead high‑quality project design, incorporating innovative approaches, project management standards and MEAL methods.
• Manage and mentor the Senegal Deputy Head of Programming, programming team and provide matrix management to the Gambia Deputy Head.
• Oversee budgeting, resource stewardship and business development cycles to ensure quality proposals.
• Identify, assess and strengthen partnerships, and ensure technical assistance and capacity building for project teams and partners.

Required profile

• Full professional proficiency in English and French.
• 5‑8 years of field‑based program management, including at least 2 years in senior management.
• Experience in proposal development, strategic alliances, project design, monitoring and evaluation, and donor‑funded grant management.
• Proven staff management, coaching, mentoring and team‑building abilities.

Required skills

• Advanced use of MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Experience with web‑conferencing applications and information/budget management systems.
• Knowledge sharing network tools.
