About the role
The MERL Intern will support MEDA’s Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning function for the Mastercard Foundation Africa Growth Fund. Working closely with the MERL Specialist and Data Systems Analyst, the intern will turn complex datasets into clear visualisations and insight‑rich reports that inform evidence‑based decision‑making.
Key responsibilities
- Support data cleaning, validation, and quality assurance across multiple datasets.
- Develop charts, graphs, dashboards and PowerPoint decks that translate complex data into clear insights for internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist with indicator tracking, performance summaries and contribute to learning briefs and quarterly reports.
Required profile
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree in economics, statistics, data science, development studies, public policy or a related field.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical and problem‑solving skills, and ability to communicate data insights to non‑technical audiences.
Required skills
- Microsoft Excel for data analysis and cleaning.
- Microsoft PowerPoint for reporting.
- Power BI or similar data‑visualisation tools.
- Basic statistical analysis using Stata, R, Python or SPSS.
