Programme Management Intern

About the role

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Dakar is offering a six‑month, unpaid Programme Management Internship. The intern will support the Global Firearms Programme, contributing to research, event organisation and communications while gaining exposure to UN intergovernmental processes.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Global Firearms Programme with normative work, technical assistance and tool development.
• Support preparation and follow‑up of workshops, meetings, high‑level events and conferences.
• Conduct legal and policy research on firearms legislation and produce background papers, country profiles, reports and briefing notes.
• Perform regular media monitoring on firearms‑related incidents and prepare weekly briefs for the team.
• Draft correspondence, take meeting minutes and contribute to social‑media content and surveys.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or recently completed a graduate programme, or the final year of a bachelor’s degree.
• Strong interest in UN work and commitment to its Charter values.
• Ability to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• No prior professional experience required.

Required skills

• Proficiency with standard office software, especially Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Teams.
• Basic ability to draft news articles or social‑media posts.
• Familiarity with designing surveys or polls is desirable.
