Regional Coordinator – Marine & Coastal Areas – Gulf of Guinea Ecoregion

About the role

The Regional Coordinator will lead the development and implementation of the Marine and Coastal (MACO) Programme for the Gulf of Guinea Ecoregion. This senior position provides strategic vision, technical guidance, and financial oversight to ensure effective, institutionally aligned programming across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the Gulf of Guinea Ecoregion Programme, defining short‑, medium‑ and long‑term strategic focus.
• Provide technical advice on marine and coastal conservation to Country Offices, thematic programmes, and act as IUCN’s focal point on related issues.
• Coordinate the analysis, development and dissemination of marine and coastal policies for the region.
• Oversee technical and financial management, including annual budgets, work plans and progress reporting.
• Ensure quality assurance, compliance with IUCN and donor policies, and systematic monitoring and evaluation of programme activities.
• Develop and maintain strategic partnerships, engage local IUCN Members, and lead fundraising efforts through proposal development and donor relationship management.
• Capitalize on lessons learned from programmes, projects and partners, and support organisational development related to programme structures.

Required profile

• Proven experience in marine and coastal conservation programme management.
• Strong background in financial planning, budgeting and reporting for international programmes.
• Demonstrated ability to develop strategic partnerships and secure funding.
• Experience in policy analysis and dissemination within the environmental sector.
