Regional Protection Officer (P)

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a Regional Protection Officer (P) to join its Protection Unit within the Regional Office for West and Central Africa (WCA). Based in Dakar, the officer will support the design, implementation and monitoring of protection, assisted voluntary return and reintegration programmes across the WCA region.

Key responsibilities

• Provide thematic oversight and technical support to protection, return and reintegration activities in partner countries.
• Coordinate protection screening, counselling and case management for beneficiaries.
• Facilitate safe and dignified travel arrangements for assisted voluntary return.
• Collaborate with IOM Headquarters, the Global Office in Washington, D.C., and country offices to ensure consistent protection standards.
• Prepare analytical reports, policy briefs and operational guidelines for the region.

Required profile

• Relevant professional experience in migration, humanitarian protection or related fields.
• Strong knowledge of the West and Central Africa migration context.
• Ability to work in a multicultural, multilingual environment.
• Fluency in English; French is an asset.
• Eligibility as a first‑tier candidate (internal staff or from a non‑represented IOM Member State).
