Senior Media & Communications Associate (Maternity Cover)

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) seeks a Senior Media & Communications Associate on a maternity cover basis to support the Regional Office Media and Communication Strategy. The role works under the Regional Director and Senior Regional Media and Communications Officer, collaborating closely with the Global Communications Team.

Key responsibilities

• Support implementation of regional media and communication strategies and outreach activities.
• Gather, draft and disseminate public information on IOM activities across written and verbal channels.
• Prepare press briefings, newsletters, website and social media content, ensuring gender awareness.
• Coordinate media, public information, event management and visibility issues with regional and country offices.
• Provide logistical and technical support for global and UN‑led campaigns.
• Produce human‑interest stories, photos and video clips for international audiences.
• Develop and share awareness‑raising resources for crisis‑affected communities, especially on climate change.
• Monitor media trends and share relevant humanitarian topics with colleagues.

Required profile

• University degree in Media, Communications, Journalism or related field with at least five years relevant experience, or high‑school diploma with seven years experience.
• Experience in public information roles at a UN or similar agency and in news media.
• Fluency in English (oral and written) required.

Required skills

• Strong writing and editing in English.
• Knowledge of graphic design, web publishing, social media management and video production.
• Familiarity with international organisations and migration‑related issues.
• Ability to work independently under pressure and meet deadlines.
