Tech Lead (Backend)

About the role

Djamo is looking for a Tech Lead (Backend) to drive the design, development, and scaling of core financial services across Francophone Africa. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will lead a cross‑functional squad while staying hands‑on in code.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of engineers, conduct weekly 1:1s, provide feedback, and guide career growth.
• Own the delivery and technical direction of a product squad, breaking down projects, managing dependencies, and ensuring timely shipping.
• Architect, build, and maintain efficient, reusable backend systems and services.
• Drive engineering best practices such as code review quality, testing strategy, CI/CD, and design documentation.
• Collaborate closely with product, design, and frontend teams to deliver secure, performant, and reliable services.

Required profile

• 7+ years of software engineering experience building production systems at scale.
• 3+ years of direct people‑management experience (1:1s, feedback, growth plans).
• Fluent in English; French is a plus.
• Strong problem‑solving mindset, entrepreneurial spirit, and ability to communicate complex topics to technical and non‑technical audiences.

Required skills

• Strong experience with TypeScript/Node.js, Python, or Go.
• Proficiency with Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and monitoring.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
• Solid knowledge of relational and non‑relational databases; PostgreSQL experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with event‑driven architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ) is a plus.
