Environment Superintendent

About the role

The Environment Superintendent leads the Site Environment Management Plan at Sabodala, reporting to the HSE Manager. This senior position oversees environmental compliance, performance, and continuous improvement across all business units and partners.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure site-wide compliance with environmental regulations and ISO 14001 standards.
• Lead the implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of the Environmental Management System (EMS).
• Identify, assess, and manage environmental risks and opportunities linked to operational and exploration activities.
• Support site sustainability and ESG objectives, including biodiversity, water stewardship, waste management, climate change, and rehabilitation.
• Conduct environmental incident investigations, determine root causes, and drive corrective actions.
• Analyse performance data, prepare management reports, and recommend improvements.
• Maintain relationships with regulators, local communities, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
• Prepare mandatory quarterly reports in French for Senegalese regulators and monthly English reports for internal use.
• Manage budgeting, cost control, team coaching, and consultant oversight.

Required profile

• Proven experience in environmental management within mining or similar heavy‑industry sectors.
• Strong knowledge of Senegalese environmental legislation and international standards (ISO 14001, IFC, RGMP, ICMC).
• Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team and mentor junior staff.
• Excellent analytical, reporting, and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
