DevOps Engineer – Remote (Africa/Europe)

About the role
OpenFn is seeking a remote DevOps Engineer to own deployment, infrastructure and operational reliability for its public‑service automation platform. The role focuses on on‑premise and local installations for government clients with strict data‑sovereignty, low‑connectivity or air‑gapped environments, while also supporting cloud‑hosted deployments on GCP, AWS and Azure.
Key responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain deployment, monitoring and instance‑maintenance tooling (Ansible, Terraform, custom CLI).
- Lead on‑premise installations on government‑managed infrastructure, including air‑gapped and low‑connectivity sites.
- Configure and manage containerised workloads using Docker, Docker‑Compose, Docker Swarm and, where applicable, Kubernetes.
- Collaborate with government IT teams to address security, network and sovereignty constraints.
- Support and optimise cloud‑hosted OpenFn environments on GCP, AWS and Azure for cost‑efficiency and production readiness.
- Create runbooks, configuration templates and documentation to enable consistent deployments.
Required profile
- Hands‑on experience delivering on‑premise infrastructure for complex, regulated environments.
- Ability to work directly with government IT counterparts and guide implementation engineers.
- Strong problem‑solving skills for troubleshooting infrastructure and runtime issues.
