About the role
The Digital Communication Officer will support UNICEF West and Central Africa Regional Office (WCARO) in delivering its partnership, communication and advocacy agenda. Working under the Regional Adviser Partnerships (Public), the role focuses on developing and managing digital content and online community engagement across multiple platforms.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement community‑engagement strategies aligned with the regional agenda for children.
- Create a visual identity for children’s rights in collaboration with country offices and regional networks.
- Manage and grow WCARO’s presence on Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, X and other social media channels.
- Foster a positive, inclusive online environment and respond promptly to follower inquiries.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging and alignment.
- Analyse follower metrics and trends to identify improvement opportunities.
- Organise and host virtual events or webinars to engage audiences.
- Produce, curate and manage digital content such as posts, videos and webinars.
- Identify and cultivate relationships with key influencers and followers.
- Stay updated on industry trends, best practices and emerging platforms.
Required profile
- University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field.
- Minimum two years of professional experience managing social‑media accounts (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, X).
- Experience in community management or social‑media management is a strong asset.
- Strong understanding of online community platforms, social‑media tools and analytics.
- Graphic‑design ability using open‑source programs or Adobe suite.
- Proficiency with Drupal, SharePoint, Hootsuite, WeShare and content‑production software (Adobe Premiere Pro, InDesign, Photoshop, Canva).
- Excellent communication, writing and interpersonal skills in French and English.
- Creative, strategic thinker with high empathy and professionalism in community interactions.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural, interdisciplinary environment.
