Fleet Technician I – Entry Level Mechanical Role

About the role

The Fairfax County Department of Fleet Management is seeking entry‑level Fleet Technicians to maintain and repair a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment. Technicians work under limited supervision, performing diagnostics, inspections, and repairs across multiple locations.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair gas, diesel, hybrid, and electric engine systems.
• Conduct Virginia state and emission inspections.
• Perform road tests on new and repaired vehicles.
• Maintain records of inspections, tests, and repairs.
• Execute emergency road and tire repairs in all weather conditions.
• Follow checklists to ensure thorough examination of critical components.

Required profile

• Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at time of application.
• Ability to work day or evening shifts as scheduled.
• Entry‑level mechanical aptitude with willingness to learn.
• Physical capability to perform hands‑on vehicle maintenance.
