Regional Thematic Specialist – Climate Action and Mobility

About the role

The Regional Thematic Specialist on Climate Action and Mobility will lead the Climate Action Thematic Unit (CAD RTU) across the region, providing strategic guidance, technical assistance and advocacy to Country Offices. Reporting to the Deputy Regional Director for Operations and under the overall supervision of the Regional Director, the role ensures evidence‑based programming that addresses the impacts of climate change on human mobility.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the CAD RTU in delivering thematic guidance, technical support and capacity‑building to Country Offices and regional partners.
• Provide strategic direction and advocacy, representing IOM’s climate‑mobility agenda to external stakeholders and regional fora.
• Coordinate technical assistance on climate‑related displacement, protection and recovery, working closely with HQ, COs and other regional units.
• Develop and maintain partnerships with donors, UN agencies, academic institutions, private sector and Member States to mobilise resources and promote IOM’s strategic plan.
• Oversee project development, reporting, monitoring and risk management in line with IOM’s policies and handbooks.
• Contribute to policy development, knowledge management and innovation by analysing climate data, supporting research and facilitating communities of practice.
