Senior Agriculture Economist

About the role

The World Bank is seeking a Senior Agriculture Economist to join its Western and Central Africa Region team in Dakar, Senegal. This role will support the design, implementation, and evaluation of agricultural development projects across 22 countries, contributing to the Bank’s mission of reducing poverty and promoting shared prosperity.

Key responsibilities

• Lead economic analysis and policy research on agriculture, food security, and related value chains in West and Central Africa.
• Develop and apply quantitative models to assess project impacts, cost‑benefit, and risk.
• Provide technical advice to client governments, development partners, and internal teams.
• Prepare high‑quality reports, briefing notes, and presentations for senior stakeholders.
• Mentor junior economists and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams within the Agriculture and Food global practice.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (PhD or Master’s) in Agricultural Economics, Development Economics, or a related field.
• Minimum 8 years of professional experience in agricultural economics, preferably in Sub‑Saharan Africa.
• Fluency in French and English (both written and spoken).
• Demonstrated experience working with multilateral development institutions or large‑scale development projects.
