Underground Jumbo Trainer - Senegal

About the role

AUMS, part of the Perenti group, is a specialist underground contract mining services business operating across Africa. It is recruiting experienced underground Jumbo Trainers for a newly appointed project in Senegal, West Africa, on a 4:4 roster. The role focuses on training the national workforce and offers a long-term international assignment with a competitive remuneration package.

Key responsibilities

• Drill drive drill patterns accurately with a mechanised electric or hydraulic jumbo drill suited to ground conditions, following site-specific patterns and survey instructions.
• Assess ground conditions at the face and implement ground control according to site requirements.
• Follow the mining instruction plan precisely so that holes are drilled to the design line, gradient and profile.
• Communicate with surveyors, geologists and engineers as required.
• Optimise drill patterns to maximise advance per round while adhering to design specifications.
• Keep the work area safe for personnel and equipment, including keeping electrical installations and services clear of the drilling area.

Required profile

• Strong background in underground hard rock mining (essential).
• At least 5 years' experience as a Jumbo Operator.
• Experience operating Sandvik DD22i drills or similar.
• Proven experience training personnel to a high standard.
• Commitment to safety and teamwork, and ability to work in remote, international environments.
• Experience in Africa or other developing regions is highly regarded; cultural awareness and sensitivity are valued.

Candidates must pass a full pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol testing and site-specific clearances, and present a National Police Clearance and any required tickets or qualifications at interview. Senegalese nationals who succeed will be employed under national conditions, so FIFO does not apply to them.
