Underground Maintenance Trainer - Senegal

About the role

AUMS, part of the Perenti group, is a specialist underground contract mining services business operating across Africa. It is recruiting experienced underground Maintenance Trainers for a long-term international assignment on a 6:3 roster at its new project in Senegal, West Africa. The role focuses on training the national workforce and works in a multicultural environment of expatriate and national staff on a large-scale gold mining operation.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled servicing of mobile equipment safely, in line with procedures, regulations and service sheets.
• Mentor, coach and develop national trades personnel.
• Use skill and experience to minimise downtime on machinery.
• Ensure maintenance is recorded and reported correctly.
• Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in workshops and work areas.
• Read and interpret service and spare parts manuals.
• Report equipment faults to the Maintenance Foreman so they can be scheduled into the weekly workshop plan.

Required profile

• Strong background in underground hard rock mining (essential).
• At least 5 years after apprenticeship in underground mining on large mobile equipment.
• Trade certification III or IV in heavy diesel equipment.
• Experience training personnel to a high standard.
• Manual driver's licence and ability to obtain an International Driver's Licence.
• Experience in Africa or other developing regions highly regarded; Senegalese nationals are welcome and will be employed under national conditions if selected.

Required skills

• Working with modern SANDVIK, CAT and Atlas underground mobile equipment and their automation systems.
• Troubleshooting electric hydraulic drilling equipment.
• Self-starter who works with minimal supervision, with strong safety awareness and teamwork.

Candidates must pass a full pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol testing and site-specific clearances, and present a police clearance and any required tickets or qualifications. An array of vaccinations is required for work in Africa. Only successful candidates will be contacted.
