Underground Shift Supervisor - Senegal Gold Mine

About the role

AUMS, part of the Perenti group, is looking for experienced underground shift supervisors for a long-term international assignment on a newly appointed gold mining project in Senegal, West Africa. The role follows a 6:3 roster and focuses on training the national workforce, in a multicultural environment of expatriate and national staff.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day operation of shift workers and equipment usage at the underground mine site
• Ensure all workers on shift are trained and competent to perform their duties safely and productively
• Train national supervisors and the workforce to a high standard
• Ensure operations are conducted safely and report safety issues promptly to the Underground Manager
• Ensure targets are met and manage, control and supervise the working areas in line with relevant Acts and Regulations
• Oversee the mine's duty of care towards employees, subcontractors and visitors
• Organise crews, rosters and the day-to-day running of the site
• Hold daily work planning meetings and toolbox talks, and submit incident reports in writing to the Site Manager
• Carry out crew training, practical assessments and review each employee's development, mentoring and performance

Required profile

• At least 5 years' experience as an underground shift supervisor
• Current WA Underground Shift Supervisor ticket or similar
• Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience
• Manual driver's licence and ability to obtain an international licence
• Commitment to safety and teamwork, and ability to work in remote, international environments
• Experience in Africa or other developing regions highly regarded
• Ability to adapt to a rostered expatriate lifestyle
• Proven experience training national personnel to a high standard

Senegalese nationals who succeed will be employed under national employment conditions, so FIFO conditions do not apply. A full pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol testing and site-specific clearances, is required, along with a police clearance and any necessary tickets or qualifications.
