Young Professional Officer – Nutrition & Food Systems

About the role

The Young Professional Officer (Nutrition and Food Systems) will support the FAO Subregional Office for West Africa in advancing nutrition-sensitive agrifood system transformation across 15 member countries. Based in Dakar, the role involves close collaboration with technical teams, country offices, regional partners and FAO headquarters.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in designing and implementing nutrition and food systems projects aligned with FAO’s Strategic Framework 2022‑31.
• Provide technical and policy support to member countries for mainstreaming nutrition into national programmes.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary experts on crop, livestock, fisheries, forestry, climate resilience and value‑chain initiatives.
• Travel to sub‑regional countries to support field activities, capacity building and stakeholder engagement.
• Contribute to data‑driven solutions, partnership mobilisation and reporting on project outcomes.

Required profile

• Young professional with a university degree in nutrition, food science, agriculture, environmental studies or a related field.
• Strong interest in sustainable food systems, nutrition security and rural development.
• Ability to work in a multicultural, multidisciplinary environment and travel within West Africa.
• Good communication skills in English; knowledge of French is an asset.
