Regional Community Stabilisation Officer

About the role

The Regional Community Stabilisation Officer will support the Protection (MPX) Unit of IOM’s West and Central Africa Regional Office, providing technical guidance and coordination for Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) programmes across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and review protection assessments, identify risk mitigation strategies, and ensure safe environments for return in countries of origin.
• Provide technical guidance to national and international protection staff, ensuring high‑quality outcomes and adherence to IOM policies.
• Coordinate with IOM headquarters, regional offices, government counterparts and partners, and represent the regional office in technical meetings and donor forums.
• Support case management coordination, contribute to project design, and develop specialised training on AVR, case management and protection interventions.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Social Sciences, International Relations, Law or related field with at least five years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with seven years of experience.
• Proven experience working with migrants, protection programming, return and reintegration programmes, and capacity‑building or training delivery.
• Fluency in English and French (oral and written); additional UN language is an advantage.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of IOM and inter‑agency protection standards.
• Excellent computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and relevant statistical analysis packages.
• Solid coordination, research and analytical abilities, and strong writing and presentation skills.
